Come join me for an approximately 45 km cycling loop tour towards the northeast on Saturday morning 6 May. Meet at the Tsukuba Center bus station at 9:00 am for a 9:10 departure. We will ride mainly on small rural roads, but there will be some short stretches on roads with traffic and some small hills, but most of the route is pretty flat. There might be some short unpaved sections. We’ll ride at whatever pace is comfortable for the slowest participant and won’t leave anyone behind.
If persistent or moderate to heavy rain seems very likely, the tour will be postponed by email sent Friday evening, 5 May. Be sure that your bicycle is in good working order and your tires have appropriate air pressure. Because brains are soft and helmets are hard, helmets are strongly recommended. There will be a convenience store break along the way, but bring water. We should be back by early afternoon.
Only those who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or have a medical excuse from a physician for not being vaccinated are eligible to participate. Masks are optional while riding, but bring one at least for the meeting spot and convenience store stops. To sign up, email to rickweisburd@gmail.com with your name and keitai number.
TWMC charges a 300 yen fee from adult participants (children are free) for day trips, which I will collect. Cycling entails some risk of accidents and injuries for which TWMC and I have no responsibility.

Francois and I enjoyed a beautiful 41 km loop ride from Tsukuba Station to the northeast:

We set out at 9:10 as scheduled along mostly uncrowded rural roads. The total duration was 3 hours and 15 minutes, including rest stops. The weather was very good, if a bit windy. There were a few small hills several tens of meters high. Our average moving speed was 16.7 km/h.
I plan to lead a different TWMC cycling day trip from Tsukuba Station on 8 October, weather permitting; details will follow in September. In the meantime, I will be doing lots of cycling; email me if you’d like to join a ride.
best,
